Managing Survey Profiles (Clearing, Deleting, and Selecting Profiles)

Managing Survey Profiles (Clearing, Deleting, and Selecting Profiles)

What They Do:

Over time, you may draw multiple Survey Profiles to explore various potential drainage routes. GSA 2.0 provides tools to manage these lines for clarity and organization. You can:

  1. Clear ALL Profiles: Remove all existing profiles from the map.
  2. Delete Selected Profile: Remove just the currently selected (active) profile.
  3. Select Profiles from a List: Review and switch between all active profiles in a dropdown menu.

Detailed Functionality:

  • Select a Profile (Dropdown Menu):
    • Once you’ve drawn multiple survey profiles, you’ll see a dropdown menu listing them as “Line 1,” “Line 2,” “Line 3,” and so on.
    • Selecting an entry in this dropdown immediately highlights that profile on the map, helping you visually identify which line you’re working on.
    • Use this when you have multiple lines and need to focus on a specific one for applying grade lines, offsets, or making design decisions.
  • Delete Profile (Single Profile Removal):
    • If a particular profile is no longer needed, first select it from the dropdown.
    • Click the Delete Selected Profile button to remove just that one from your project.
    • This action cannot be undone unless you have previously saved your entire workspace (project) and then re-import it.
    • Deleting one profile is useful for refining your workspace as your design evolves. For example, if you drew a test route that turned out to be non-viable, simply select and delete it to reduce clutter.
  • Clear Profiles (Remove All at Once):
    • The Clear ALL Profiles button is a global reset for all currently drawn lines. Clicking it will remove every survey profile currently loaded on the map.
    • Important: Once cleared, these profiles cannot be recovered unless you have previously exported (saved) your project. Without a saved backup, all profiles and their associated elevation data, grade lines, and connections are permanently lost.
    • Use Clear Profiles with caution—it’s intended for starting fresh, or after you’ve completed a design and want to try a completely new layout from scratch.

Best Practices:

  • Save Before Clearing:
    • If you’ve spent significant time designing and analyzing runs, use the Export Project feature to save your entire current workspace before using Clear Profiles. This creates a backup you can return to later.
  • Keep the Workspace Organized:
    • By regularly deleting non-essential profiles and clearing when necessary (after a save), you maintain a cleaner, more manageable environment. This helps you focus on the routes that matter and reduce confusion.

In Summary:

The profile management tools give you control over your survey lines. Select profiles to work on them, delete specific ones you no longer need, or clear everything when you’re ready to start anew. Always remember to save your project if you want to keep your current work safe before clearing.
